The rain was beating against the glass of the third-floor office like a hammer on an anvil, but Detective Jack Sterling barely heard it over the buzzing fluorescent light overhead. It was 3:14 AM. The neon sign across the alley flickered its red warning through the Venetian blinds: DANGER.

Jack had chased every lowlife, pusher, and shadow in the city, but nothing prepared him for Case #420-B.

It started with a anonymous tip—a rumor of something growing beneath the floorboards, fed on dark secrets and pure, unfiltered potency. Jack pulled up the rug, braced his gun, and pried up the rotted pine. He expected a stash box. Maybe a wad of marked bills.

Out from the splintered subterranean soil burst a towering, crystalline monolith—a bud so dense, so loud, it practically vibrated the room. The stench hit him first: skunk, diesel, and a rich, earthy sweetness that made his head spin and his lungs ache just standing near it. Trichomes glistened like shattered glass under the dim bulb, throwing off a aura so heavy it bent the light around it.

Jack recoiled, clutching his trench coat, his eyes wide in absolute, raw terror. His mind raced, scrambling for a logical explanation, but his subconscious already knew the brutal truth, pulsing in bold, halftone-shadowed letters across his brain: DEADLY NUGS.
